About the Role
We’re looking for a passionate storyteller to join Mencap as a Stories & Content Officer, helping to place people with lived experience at the heart of everything we do. This is a fixed term contract until March 2027. In this role, you’ll meet people with a learning disability and those close to them to capture their experiences. Using your journalistic instincts, you will craft powerful, authentic stories that raise awareness, challenge perceptions, and demonstrate the real impact of Mencap’s work.

You will join a dynamic, committed communications team working to educate the public, influence policy, and amplify the voices of people with a learning disability. Mencap is challenging the way the UK understands learning disability and paving the way for more impactful change in how learning disability is portrayed in the media.

Experience
- Experience of interviewing and communicating personal stories
- Ability to produce engaging content, including writing impactful copy for the web, recording basic videos, and creating simple graphics
- Familiarity with relevant software and tools
- Some experience working with people with learning disabilities and/or additional needs is desirable
