About the Role
Hackney is an exciting, diverse and vibrant borough, home to people from all walks of life and where 89 languages are spoken. With one in three households renting in the private sector, housing across London is under unprecedented pressure. In response, Hackney’s Mayor has pledged to tackle poor housing conditions and management practices. The Council is using new powers and expanded licensing schemes to improve standards, ensuring private rented properties are safe, well managed and properly licensed, contributing to a fair and well-regulated borough.

We have an exciting opportunity for 5 Technical Licensing Officers to join our Property Licensing Team. This career-graded role offers development and progression opportunities, allowing you to make a real difference in improving the lives of residents across Hackney.

Reporting to the Principal Licensing Officer, you will support the delivery of Hackney’s property licensing schemes through accurate casework, technical assessment and high-quality customer service. You will work closely with residents, landlords, agents and internal teams to ensure properties are properly licensed and compliant with legislation.

Progression from Scale 6 to SO1 will be based on demonstrated competence, technical capability, experience and consistent performance at SO1 level.

Successful candidates will join a friendly team committed to ensuring safe and well-managed homes for Hackney residents. Hackney Council values its staff as its most outstanding asset, dedicated to serving residents and achieving organisational goals.

We operate a fair and open anonymous selection process and do not accept supporting statements or CVs. Applications require completion of competency-based questions to demonstrate your suitability for the role.
