About the Service and Team
You will be joining a team that sits at the intersection of advice, support, and rigorous enforcement. As the council takes on new responsibilities under the Renters Rights Act 2025, our mission is clear: to be the council’s frontline experts in tenancy law. We protect our residents from rogue landlord practices, intervene in illegal evictions, and work across boundaries—partnering with Legal Services, the Police, and Social Care—to deliver fair, legal, and life-changing outcomes for our residents.
About the Role
The Tenancy Relations Officer is responsible for leading the Council’s response to investigate breaches of private sector housing law, particularly relating to the Renters Rights Act 2025 and the Protection from Eviction Act 1977. The role aims to mediate and intervene between landlords and tenants to successfully resolve disputes, ensuring tenants reside in safe accommodation and landlords are supported in managing their properties. Operating within the Council’s Community Housing and Regulatory Services, this role varies from providing basic housing advice to undertaking enforcement and litigation actions relating to criminal offences such as illegal eviction and harassment, conducting formal interviews under caution, and preparing comprehensive prosecution files for court.
