About the Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated practitioner to join our prevention offer within the Integrated Youth Support Service (IYSS). The Thriving Practitioner role supports children and young people to achieve their aspirations and be safe in their communities. You will be part of a small team working intensively with children and young people who are at risk in their community or vulnerable to harm outside of their home. The team provides support for families presenting needs relating to persistent absence, missing from home, substance misuse, behavioural challenges, and poor mental health and wellbeing including bullying.

The Thriving Practitioners play a key role in delivering effective multi-agency preventative support, working towards positive outcomes to reduce risk and prevent offending following a ‘risk led’ and ‘child first’ framework. Duties include working relationally with children and young people, undertaking planning and interventions within a multi-agency context, and working closely with statutory, voluntary, and community partners. The role aims to prevent offending and improve outcomes for young people affected by exploitation and harm outside the home, including siblings of those involved with the youth justice system.

Reporting to the Senior Practitioner, you will work alongside the wider prevention offer within IYSS and Youth Justice colleagues to reduce the negative impacts of youth offending on children, young people, and their families.

Apply now to be part of a life-changing initiative for children and young people in Newham.

Requirements

Experience
Experience in youth work and working directly with children and families facing complex challenges. Experience working in multi-agency, public sector or voluntary sector settings, including case management and report writing on young people’s assessed needs. Knowledge of integrated working with services involved in youth justice and experience planning and engaging young people in group work programmes addressing offending behaviour.

About you
A passionate advocate for children and young people affected by exploitation and peer violence. Skilled in building trusted relationships and delivering effective, age-appropriate interventions that recognise individual needs, strengths, and experiences. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage young people and families sensitively and confidentially. A quick thinker and problem solver who can analyse information to inform assessments and decisions regarding criminal justice proceedings and solutions for young people at risk of offending and re-offending.

Qualifications
Relevant qualifications or experience in youth work, social work, or related fields are expected to support the delivery of this role effectively.
