About the Role
If you’re interested in making a difference to people’s lives, HM Treasury offers an exciting opportunity to influence decision making that affects the whole of the UK. Working at the heart of government, you will collaborate across departments to promote responsible public spending and drive strong and sustainable economic growth. The Treasury’s work spans protecting customers through financial sector regulation, reducing carbon emissions to create a greener economy, promoting British trade globally, and supporting jobs and growth across the country.

As part of the Darlington Economic Campus, a cross-government hub, you will work closely with colleagues to tackle key national issues while remaining connected to the communities served.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for high-performing candidates interested in macroeconomic policy. You will engage in a mix of policy and analytical work, including managing one of the Treasury’s most important institutional relationships. Key responsibilities include building and maintaining expertise in monetary policy, leading Treasury policy on the UK’s monetary framework, supporting the Treasury-Bank of England relationship, leading on the Monetary Policy Committee remit and advising ministers, conducting policy and economic analysis on quantitative easing and tightening, supporting the Chief Economist in MPC appointments, and delivering high-quality input into ministerial correspondence and parliamentary questions related to monetary policy.

Some responsibilities may evolve as the team changes.

Experience
Experience of communicating economic issues to a range of audiences is essential. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, managing both short-term and long-term priorities effectively. The ability to use evidence and knowledge to support policy advice is also required.

About you
You should have a strong interest in macroeconomic issues and be enthusiastic about contributing to economic policy. Effective communication, delivering at pace, and making sound decisions based on evidence are key behaviours for success in this role.
