About the Role
Discover yourself in Lewisham where your work makes a difference to vibrant and culturally diverse communities. Lewisham is proud to be the UK’s first Borough of Sanctuary, championing the rights of refugees and migrants. As an Assistant Public Health Strategist for Health Inequalities, you will support the development, implementation, and evaluation of projects within the Lewisham Health Inequalities and Health Equity Programme, including the Birmingham and Lewisham African Caribbean Health Inequalities Review (BLACHIR). Working at both strategic and operational levels, you will coordinate and lead work streams and projects, developing systems and processes to achieve agreed outcomes.

You will manage projects, supervise staff, monitor budgets, and produce regular updates for a wide range of audiences including GP practices, Council meetings, Integrated Care Boards, and community groups. You will also analyse health inequalities data to inform strategies and work closely with statutory and non-profit organisations to implement local delivery plans and public health initiatives.
You will maintain strong working relationships with departments within Lewisham Council, Lewisham ICS, South East London ICS, NHS England, OHID, DHSC, and other relevant networks. Promoting health equity through community events, local media, and healthcare partners will be a key part of your role. Staying current with research and best practices in health equity, providing public health expertise for partnership working and commissioning, and supporting training development to build capacity across settings are essential responsibilities. You will also lead or support multi-agency meetings and maintain a commitment to continuing professional development within public health.
This role is subject to an enhanced DBS check.
