About the Role
At WSP, you will have the opportunity to work on landmark projects and collaborate with leading experts in Building Technology Systems. Our team delivers Smart Building Technology, Information and Communications Technology, and Audio Visual design solutions. We are seeking Senior, Principal, Associate, and Associate Director level Controls engineers to join our UK Building Technology Systems team, focusing on HVAC control designs and smart building outcomes.

You will work closely with clients to develop and engineer industry-leading HVAC control designs, coordinate delivery of HVAC controls including motor control panel design, software configuration, graphic packages, and installation and commissioning scope. Your expertise will improve mechanical and electrical building system designs and lead systems integration design activities across building services systems.

Our projects range from high-rise towers and hyper-scale data centres to stadia and transformative healthcare facilities. As part of the team, you will help clients strategise, design, and implement innovative solutions that enhance building performance and occupant experience.

Key responsibilities include advocating for BMS and smart building outcomes across multidisciplinary teams, producing detailed performance specifications, designing control systems with consideration for cloud analytics, cyber-security, and network connectivity, and staying abreast of smart building technology trends and industry standards.

Requirements

Experience
- Strategic BMS Controls engineering experience with strong understanding of BMS software and best practices
- Delivery of HVAC sequences of operations and description of operations
- Consulting experience across RIBA stages and multidisciplinary collaboration
- Mechanical Engineering background or Controls-focused MEP engineering experience
- Applied industry experience in control and automation at technician/engineer level, preferably in critical and secure environments
- Detailed knowledge of major manufacturers' equipment and systems such as Tridium Niagara, Schneider, Siemens, Honeywell, Trend, Delta Controls
- Ability to design, specify, document, and coordinate implementation of BMS technologies
- Coordination of subcontractors and internal resources to deliver full BMS system solutions
- Awareness of HVAC technology trends and energy reduction strategies
- Experience in delivering controls and building performance advice and technical documentation
- Ability to develop design and engineering requirements for a wide range of building types and complexities
- Familiarity with device and point naming standards, cyber-security, and network connectivity implications
- Awareness of specialist building systems including fire safety, lighting, security, ICT infrastructure, and cloud connectivity
- Knowledge of Post Occupancy Evaluation and Design for Performance initiatives such as NABERS UK
- Awareness of industry certifications including WELL, LEED, BREEAM SmartScore, WiredScore
- Report writing, specification writing, problem solving, analytical and project management skills

Qualifications
- Completion of the three BCIA technical training modules: Fundamentals of HVAC & Building Technology (BCM01), Measuring & Control Technology (BCM02), Hydraulics in Building Services (BCM03)
- CIBSE (Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers) / Engineering Council accreditation or equivalent experience leading towards chartership
- Relevant industry certifications and training in smart building technologies and controls engineering are advantageous
