About the Role
Are you an experienced Building Surveyor with a strong understanding of legal disrepair and residential property maintenance? As a Building Surveyor (Legal Disrepair) at Peabody, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality repairs, maintenance, and property services, helping to resolve legal disrepair cases efficiently and professionally. Working within one of our regional Property Services teams, you will manage disrepair cases from start to finish, providing technical expertise, project management, and excellent customer service.
Supported by a team of Disrepair Coordinators and Case Managers, you will work closely with residents, contractors, and colleagues to ensure good outcomes for our customers while protecting Peabody’s interests.
Your key responsibilities will include managing legal disrepair cases from initial inspection through to completion and resolution; carrying out site inspections, investigations, and building surveys to identify defects and recommend solutions; preparing specifications, schedules of work, estimates, and technical reports using the National Schedule of Rates; ensuring remedial works are delivered safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all relevant regulations; managing contractors delivering disrepair works, monitoring quality, performance, and compliance; acting as the key technical point of contact for residents, colleagues, and stakeholders throughout each case; carrying out pre-inspections, handovers, and post-inspections to ensure works meet required standards; working collaboratively with Asset Management, Repairs, and other internal teams to deliver seamless services; supporting the organisation in mitigating legal liability and managing disrepair risks effectively; and participating in the Property Services out-of-hours rota and providing technical support when required.
Experience
Extensive experience in building surveying and building pathology, ideally within social housing
Strong knowledge of the Housing Disrepair Protocol and experience managing legal disrepair cases
Detailed understanding of Schedule of Rates and methods of measurement
Experience managing multiple complex cases from inception through to completion
Excellent customer relationship management skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Excellent report-writing and technical documentation skills
Good knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and building regulations
Strong IT skills and experience using property management systems
Ability to prioritise workloads and meet demanding deadlines
Experience presenting technical information to a variety of audiences
A clean, manual, UK driving licence with access to your own vehicle is desirable but not essential

Qualifications
Degree in Building Surveying or a related technical discipline, or HNC/HND equivalent
Professional membership (preferred)
Candidates with significant relevant experience may be considered in place of formal qualifications
