Location
Elephant and Castle, London, SE11 - based within an Independent Approved Premises. Please note this location does not have step free access.
Hours
Full Time - 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday 09:00 - 17:00. Flexibility may be required as per service needs.
Salary
£27,000 per annum
About the Role
We are seeking a Caretaker to join our team at Elephant and Castle. You will support the team to maintain our properties to a high standard by performing a variety of tasks including cleaning and handy person duties. You will deliver a professional, customer service focused approach to ensure our properties are safe and meet our good homes standard. The role is based within our Independent Approved Premises (IAP), a 24/7 accommodation and support service for men leaving prison, providing high levels of support, supervision, and complex care.
Key responsibilities include:
- Cleaning buildings and rooms including end of tenancy deep cleans
- Preparing accommodation for new occupants
- Carrying out basic repairs and maintenance such as furniture upkeep, gardening, replacing bulbs, painting and decorating
- Collaborating with teams to carry out risk assessments
- Working with external partners for additional repair tasks
Experience
Proven appropriate experience in a similar role, which may include housekeeping, cleaning, or handyperson work.

- Keen interest in caretaking with an understanding of health, safety, and environment, and the ability to apply this practically in a residential service.
- Ability to take ownership of your role and projects, working independently as well as part of a team.
- Understanding of the needs of residents and flexibility to meet tailored needs for residents and staff.
- Proactive nature with the ability to make decisions, use initiative, and provide logical solutions, taking ownership and accountability.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, including relationship building.
- Attention to detail and quality with a high level of organisational skills.
- Knowledge of Health, Safety, and Environment laws and practices in accommodation settings.
- Understanding of the housing needs of people with multiple and complex needs.
