About the Role
Reporting to the Head of Collaboration Tooling within the Infrastructure & Operations group in Technology, this senior engineering role focuses on implementing and supporting collaboration tools and services used by Financial Times staff. The Infrastructure & Operations team comprises around 90 people across multiple disciplines including cloud services, code management, end-user device management, collaboration tools, networking, global service desk, identity and access management, and technical operations support. The team values transparency, accountability, shared responsibility, teamwork, and a supportive knowledge-sharing culture.
Key responsibilities include leading technical design and architectural decisions for collaboration tooling platforms, acting as a subject matter expert on AI capabilities within collaboration tools, engaging cross-functionally across FT Technology, contributing to product and renewal roadmaps, managing supplier relationships, and promoting an inclusive and open team culture. You will help improve technology, processes, and skills within the team while establishing engineering standards, operational practices, and architectural principles for collaboration tooling and integrations.
The role requires comfort in making and communicating sound technical decisions in ambiguous situations and acting as a technical escalation point for complex issues. A curiosity about emerging technologies, especially AI and automation, and the ability to translate them into practical business value is essential.
The collaboration tools you will focus on include ChatGPT, Google Workspace, Google Gemini, Slack, Jira, Confluence, Figma, Make, MASV, Monday.com, Zapier, LucidChart, and LucidSpark, among others.
Experience
Proven experience in senior engineering roles involving collaboration tooling platforms and AI integration. Experience working in multidisciplinary teams and managing supplier relationships is desirable.
