About the Role
The Compliance division prevents, detects and mitigates compliance, regulatory and reputational risk across the firm and helps to strengthen the firm’s culture of compliance. As an independent control function and part of the firm’s second line of defense, Compliance assesses the firm’s compliance, regulatory and reputational risk; monitors for compliance with new or amended laws, rules and regulations; designs and implements controls, policies, procedures and training; conducts independent testing; investigates, surveils and monitors for compliance risks and breaches; and leads the firm’s responses to regulatory examinations, audits and inquiries.
This Analyst level role is within the London Global Banking and Markets – Public Compliance Team providing compliance coverage across market-leading Fixed Income, Currencies and Commodities (FICC) business units, primarily focusing on Credit and Mortgages. Reporting to the EMEA Head of Credit and Mortgages Compliance, the role is part of the FICC Compliance team within the Global Banking and Markets – Public Compliance team.
Key responsibilities include providing real-time compliance counsel on the trading floor to the FICC business, focusing on Credit and Mortgages, regarding relevant rules, regulations and internal policies. The role involves proactive risk mitigation instructions on regulatory and policy matters including individual transactions, new products and business initiatives; assisting with interpretation and implementation of new rules and regulations; developing and delivering both ad-hoc and annual face-to-face training; developing and deploying second line controls and assisting the first line with their controls; reviewing new algorithms and electronic-related business initiatives; reviewing complex and strategic marketing materials and committee memos; coordinating with the broader Global Banking and Markets – Public Compliance Team, Federation, Financial Crime Compliance, and other firm departments such as Controllers, Operations, Internal Audit and Legal.
The role also includes participation in compliance, regulatory and internal investigations and audits, including forensic reviews using firm systems, liaising with local regulators and Exchange/MTF operators, and coordinating responses to ad-hoc regulatory enquiries.
Experience
- Ability to process large amounts of information on novel topics and identify salient points, presenting them succinctly to senior audiences.
- Experience building relationships with stakeholders of various seniority and roles.
- Demonstrable interest in financial services, particularly trading-floor Compliance.
- Strong analytical, technical and problem-solving skills with sound and balanced judgment.
- Ability to learn and navigate technical firm systems used for forensic reviews and educate others.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and work to tight deadlines in a dynamic trading floor environment.
- Desirable: Compliance experience on a trading floor for a Tier 1 house or with sophisticated algorithmic/electronic business units and/or complex financing/trading capabilities.

Qualifications
- Degree level or equivalent (not essential if relevant working experience).
- Professional qualifications such as CA, CFA, Solicitor or Bar exams are an advantage.
- Languages an advantage, particularly French and/or German.
- Ability to code or understand code is an advantage.
- Understanding or awareness of EU and US regulations (MIFID II, MAR, Benchmarks, Dodd Frank, FMSB Standards, EMIR, CFTC, SEC) is an advantage.
