About the Role
Ealing is a highly diverse and vibrant borough in west London, home to around 370,000 people, making it the third largest borough by population in London. It is an exciting and diverse place to live and work.

Role 1: This permanent post provides Consultant leadership on wider determinants of health (excluding climate change and food landscape), community engagement, and data & intelligence. You will lead a health in all policies approach with your team and provide public health leadership to the Economy and Sustainability and Housing directorates. Responsibilities include co-chairing the Building Blocks of Health public health working group, providing leadership to the Ealing Place-Making Board and Ealing Regional Park Steering Group, and co-chairing the Data and Intelligence Workstream reporting to the Ealing BBP, developing a community of practice. Over the next year, you will promote the Ealing Health Inequalities Dashboard and lead the design and delivery of the building blocks of health toolkit to partners and local communities. This role includes line management of two Public Health Principals and a Public Health Programme Support Officer.

Role 2: This fixed-term post provides Consultant leadership primarily on children’s public health. Using a systems leadership approach, you will work with council children’s services, schools’ teams, NHS, education, and voluntary and community sectors to improve a range of child health outcomes. You will provide senior public health expertise to Ealing’s Children and Young People’s Board and its subgroups, covering early years/early help, SEND/inclusion, healthy bodies (oral health, healthy weight including physical activity, asthma), and healthy minds (children’s mental health). You will also support implementation of national children’s policy initiatives and work with commissioners to strengthen the 0-19 Healthy Child Programme service. This role includes line management of two Public Health Principals.

Your collegiate style and high-quality advice will be respected by internal and external partners. You will work closely across council departments, the local borough-based partnership, voluntary, community and faith sectors, and with residents.

The Public Health team has a strong learning ethos and provides a supportive environment with opportunities for team development. Ealing Council is a London School of Public Health training location, and you will be expected to develop as a project supervisor and provide supervision of trainees as agreed with the Educational Supervisor.

The Council Plan focuses on tackling inequalities, supporting healthy lives, and engaging communities. The Health & Wellbeing Strategy 2023-28 prioritizes reducing inequalities and improving the building blocks of health. Ealing Council has established a Health Determinants Research Collaboration funded by NIHR, working with communities and academic partners. Strong relationships exist across the Council, especially following joint work during the COVID-19 pandemic. There are exciting opportunities within the Borough-Based Partnership with positive relationships and joint working structures.

By joining Ealing, you will be part of a respected, innovative, and diverse London borough with a strong commitment to health and wellbeing. Public Health is central to early intervention and prevention work, and we seek Consultants who enjoy building strong partnerships and embrace working within a Council setting.

Flexible working is considered for all roles in the Public Health team. Currently, most staff work in a hybrid model with office attendance encouraged at least two days per week, subject to departmental needs.
