About the Role
Enfield Youth Development Service, part of the Children and Families division within the Youth People and Community Safety Department, supports young people with additional needs including children in need, those on child protection plans, children looked after, and young people engaging in risky behaviour. The service works with young people aged 11-19, and up to 25 for those with disabilities and learning difficulties. The key aim is to provide personal and social development opportunities to help young people transition to adulthood, achieve positive outcomes, and promote good citizenship.
As a Contextual Safeguarding Youth Support Worker, you will employ a variety of youth work methods such as detached and outreach youth work, mentoring, advocacy, information, advice and guidance, one-to-one support, group work, and project work. You will be part of the contextual safeguarding youth work team, line managed by the Youth Service and directed by the Contextual Safeguarding Hub to target identified hotspots and young people at risk.
Your role will involve working in diverse settings including streets, local parks, communities, neighbourhoods, and schools. You will engage young people through building trusting relationships, delivering tailored interventions to reduce risky behaviour and harm, and promoting learning, personal and social development. Evening and weekend work will be required in line with service needs.
Collaboration with key professional agencies such as social workers, police, schools, youth offending services, community safety, health, and housing is essential. You will support and challenge young people’s attitudes and actions on issues including unemployment, drugs, poverty, racism, sexism, disability, health, sexuality, criminality, and peer, parental, and community pressure.
Enfield Council is committed to creating an environment that supports professional development and high-quality social work for vulnerable children and young people. We encourage a culture of openness, respect, responsibility, and continuous learning.
Experience
Experience working with young people, particularly those with additional needs or at risk, is desirable. Experience in youth work methods such as outreach, mentoring, and group work will be advantageous.
About you
You will be passionate about supporting young people, motivated to engage with those at risk, and able to build trusting relationships. You should be adaptable to work in a variety of settings and willing to work evenings and weekends as required. A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people is essential.
You will demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with multi-agency partners and challenge young people positively on complex social issues.
Qualifications
Relevant qualifications in youth work, social care, or related fields are desirable but not mandatory. A positive attitude, willingness to learn, and commitment to professional development are essential.
