About the Role
If you’re interested in making a difference to people’s lives, HM Treasury offers an exciting opportunity to influence decision making that affects the whole of the UK. Working at the heart of government, you will collaborate across departments to promote responsible public spending and drive strong and sustainable economic growth.

HM Treasury’s work spans protecting customers through financial sector regulation, reducing carbon emissions to create a greener economy, promoting British trade globally, and supporting jobs and growth across the country. The role is based within the Darlington Economic Campus, a cross-government hub focused on tackling key national issues while working closer to communities.

As a Correspondence Drafter, you will be involved in identifying relevant policies related to incoming correspondence and assist in drafting accurate replies on behalf of ministers. You will engage with a wide range of colleagues, including policy teams, senior managers, other government departments, and ministerial private offices.

Your responsibilities will include drafting high-quality, accurate responses to correspondence, ensuring departmental timescales are met, allocating correspondence to appropriate teams, and maintaining strong working relationships across the department. You will also develop your skills to provide flexible cover and contribute to high priority tasks as required. Embracing change and technology, you will adapt quickly to innovations and automation of processes.

HM Treasury values diversity and inclusion and encourages applications from candidates with varied backgrounds and experiences. Prior experience in correspondence is not essential, but the ability to learn quickly, work at pace, manage multiple deadlines under pressure, and proactively develop your skills is important.

As an employee, you will have access to training and development opportunities in a supportive environment, with encouragement to seek extra responsibilities and work towards your career goals.
