About the Role
The Country Policy Manager will lead the Country Risk Policy branch within the Economics and Country Risk team at UK Export Finance (UKEF). This role is responsible for overseeing the delivery of high-quality outputs, improving team processes and systems, and ensuring that country cover policies accurately reflect assessed sovereign risks. The postholder will manage sovereign risk frameworks, including country cover policies and exposure limits, to support UKEF’s objective of operating at no net cost to the taxpayer while meeting financial goals.
Key responsibilities include managing the communication of country cover policies internally via the Country Information System and externally through UKEF’s website and engagement with government departments. The role involves close collaboration with Country Risk Economists to ensure policies reflect economic and political risk assessments. The postholder will oversee sovereign risk data across multiple systems, working with digital, data, technology, and operations teams to enhance and automate processes.
The Country Policy Manager will also line-manage one Higher Executive Officer (HEO), providing direction, supporting development, and assuring output quality. The role includes contributing to and potentially leading reviews of sovereign risk frameworks, engaging senior stakeholders across UKEF and government, including HM Treasury.
This position requires producing clear, accurate, and timely advice and briefings for senior officials and ministers, managing contracts for country risk data and analytic services, and proactively monitoring casework and policy enquiries to enable sound portfolio management and underwriting decisions.
