CPRD Infrastructure Operations Engineer

About the Role
We are seeking an Infrastructure Operations Engineer to join the Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD) Team within the Safety and Surveillance group at the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). This permanent, full-time role offers the opportunity to support and enhance the UK Government’s premier data-driven health research service.
As part of the Infrastructure Team, you will maintain secure, resilient, and highly available Azure cloud infrastructure that underpins CPRD’s research environments, data platforms, and business-critical services. You will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, technical teams, and external suppliers to ensure operational excellence.
The role involves proactive ownership of operational activities, investigating and resolving technical issues, supporting infrastructure changes, and contributing to continuous service improvements. You will have the opportunity to develop your Azure expertise and support innovative research platforms used by healthcare researchers across the UK.
MHRA is implementing a flexible hybrid working model with a minimum of 8 days per month on site, which may flex up to 12 days depending on business needs. Remote working is potentially available for some roles and should be discussed with the recruiting manager.
Experience
- Proven experience managing IT infrastructure in an Azure cloud environment.
- Strong understanding of Azure services including computing, storage, networking, and identity management.
- Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps, automation tools such as PowerShell and Azure CLI, and configuration management.
- Familiarity with Active Directory and role-based access control (RBAC).
- Working knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and compliance standards in cloud environments.
- Experience using business information management systems to monitor, track, and report data usage.
- Knowledge of project management techniques to deliver outcomes, identify risks, and implement mitigating actions.

Qualifications
- Educated to degree level or equivalent in computer science, information technology, mathematics, or a related discipline.
- Professional qualifications such as ITIL Foundation are desirable.
- Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate or Azure Solutions Architect Expert are advantageous.
