Positions available across multiple Crown Courts in London including Central Criminal Court (EC4M 7EH), Harrow Crown Court (HA1 4TU), Inner London Crown Court (SE1 6AZ), Isleworth Crown Court (TW7 5LP), Kingston upon Thames Crown Court (KT1 2BB), Snaresbrook Crown Court (E11 1QW), Southwark Crown Court (SE1 2HU), Wood Green Crown Court (N22 5LF), and Woolwich Crown Court (SE28 0EY).
Hours
Full Time - 37 hours per week. HMCTS welcomes part-time, flexible and job-sharing working patterns where they meet the demands of the role and business needs and are agreed prior to appointment.
Salary
£33,551 per annum
About the Role
As a Crown Court Clerk, you will play a vital role in ensuring Crown Court hearings run smoothly. You will confidently communicate in court, liaising with Judges and all participants, and produce accurate and timely court documents. The role requires high emotional resilience and the ability to handle sensitive and complex matters with a non-judgemental approach. You will work closely with the clerking team to maximise judicial sitting time, intervene in court when necessary, and manage critical documentation such as verdicts, arraignments, court orders, and hearing outcomes. The role involves adapting to new digital systems and technologies as HMCTS continues to invest in improving justice delivery. Occasional travel to other courts within the London Crown Court Cluster may be required for cover purposes.

Experience
- Ability to speak publicly and confidently within a courtroom environment.
- Experience producing accurate, time-critical documentation.

Qualifications
- No specific qualifications required, but eligibility for enhanced vetting checks (CTC Level Clearance) is mandatory for certain court locations.
- Must have had permanent residence in the UK for the last 3 years and not have lived or worked overseas during that time for roles requiring CTC clearance.
- This role is not eligible for new Skilled Worker visas. Applicants must have and maintain the legal right to live and work in the UK and Civil Service.
