Hours
Full Time - 37 hours per week. HMCTS welcomes part-time, flexible and job-sharing working patterns where they meet the demands of the role and business needs and are agreed prior to appointment.

Salary
£40,014 per annum

About the Role
As a Legal Officer within HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS), you will play a critical role in helping deliver justice by supporting the effective administration of Tribunals business on a national scale. Working within a Regional Hearing Centre (RHC), you will undertake complex case work and assessment activities to advance caseloads and remove barriers to timely case progression. You will work independently with the support of a wider team, making informed case management decisions under the supervision of a Senior Legal Officer and leadership judiciary, exercising delegated judicial powers. The role involves liaising with key stakeholders and HMCTS colleagues to ensure the effective administration of justice. This is an office-based position requiring attendance at the Croydon office. Occasional travel to other courts may be required. Non-contractual hybrid working may be available but specific work-from-home schedules cannot be guaranteed.

Requirements

Experience
A law degree or equivalent technical experience is desirable. Equivalent technical experience is defined as the demonstration of transferable decision-making aptitude, working within a set framework or guidance and previous precedents, under a form of supervision.

About You
You are able to reflect on issues and take an informed, impartial approach to your work, making evidence-based decisions. You are a confident communicator and decision maker, able to engage effectively with all court users. You understand the importance of impartial decision making and can process a wide range of information quickly. You have the ability to communicate with multiple levels of stakeholders, both internal and external to the Tribunal, adapting your communication style to your audience.

Qualifications
A law degree or equivalent technical experience is desirable as outlined above.
