About the Role
As a Customer Delivery Driver at Sainsbury's, you will be the face of the company at every doorstep, delivering groceries with a thoughtful, friendly, and helpful service. You will drive a 3.5 tonne refrigerated van to deliver orders on time and in excellent condition. Your responsibilities include completing checks to ensure the van is roadworthy, clean, and organised, securing customers’ shopping before departure, and following planned routes while driving safely in various traffic, weather, and road conditions. You will move containers weighing up to 15kg and deliver shopping to a variety of properties, which may involve steps, lifts, or longer walks from the van. Excellent communication with customers is essential, including keeping them informed of any delays, handling queries, and managing order changes. When not making deliveries, you may assist across the store as required. This role requires energy, warmth, and care to provide the best doorstep experience and support the community-focused spirit of Sainsbury's stores.

No specific prior experience required, but comfortable driving larger vehicles and working in a fast-paced, physical environment is essential.

About you

Comfortable driving a 3.5 tonne refrigerated van safely in diverse locations including busy residential streets, city centres, and narrow country lanes. Able to work independently and as part of a wider store team. Physically capable of repeatedly moving shopping containers weighing up to 15kg. Able to use initiative, solve problems, and make safe decisions on the road. Flexible and willing to work across the store and take on new challenges. Open to learning, developing, and using route and delivery technology confidently.

Qualifications
Must be over 18 years old and hold a full UK/EU driving licence for at least 12 months with no more than 6 points. Right to Work eligibility in the UK is required. Candidates will complete an online driving risk assessment as part of the interview process and a driving assessment upon joining. Sainsbury’s uses in-cab AI cameras to monitor driver behaviour to promote safety and compliance with road laws.
