About the Role
Do you want to work on one of the most exciting transformation projects in the public sector? The Defence Housing Service (DHS) is being created through the Armed Forces Bill to deliver a step-change in housing for the UK’s Armed Forces and their families. Backed by a £9.2 billion investment, DHS will modernise tens of thousands of homes, introduce a more proactive and customer-focused approach to maintenance, and unlock new opportunities to develop housing on Defence land. This is the most significant change to Armed Forces housing in over 50 years, placing families firmly at the heart of everything DHS does.

The Deputy Head of Housing Support Services provides strategic leadership across a broad portfolio of housing support functions critical to the successful delivery of UK Defence housing. Leading teams responsible for legal services, housing casework, customer support, debt management, loss of entitlement activity, and business governance, you will ensure services are delivered efficiently, compliantly, and with a strong customer focus. You will drive continuous improvement, provide operational assurance, and lead the resolution of complex and sensitive issues while fostering a high-performing culture across geographically dispersed teams.

Working closely with senior stakeholders across Defence and partner organisations, you will play a key role in shaping service delivery and supporting organisational transformation. The role involves leading the delivery of housing support services, managing legal and litigation matters, overseeing debt management and housing charges, and ensuring effective business management and governance.

This is a rare opportunity to shape the culture, influence how the service works, and help deliver lasting improvements for Service families across the UK. The Defence Housing team is part of the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), which responds to the evolving needs of military personnel and their communities, delivering unique infrastructure projects across the globe.
