About the Role
We’re looking for an experienced Deputy Principal Lawyer (Litigation) to join our Legal Services team. This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive to lead on a varied and complex litigation caseload, including housing, enforcement, judicial review, licensing, debt recovery, commercial property and anti-social behaviour matters. You’ll provide strategic legal advice to senior officers, elected members and key stakeholders, represent the Council in court where required, and play a key role in shaping policy and delivering high-quality legal services in a dynamic local government environment.

About the Team
Legal Services is a highly regarded, collaborative team at the heart of the organisation, supporting the Council’s priorities and helping to deliver positive outcomes for residents. Working closely with senior leaders, elected members and colleagues across the Council, you’ll contribute to significant projects, influence decision-making and help drive continuous improvement. As a member of the Legal Services management team, you’ll lead and develop a team of legal professionals, promote knowledge sharing and innovation, and ensure the service continues to deliver excellent, customer-focused legal support.

A place that is proudly distinctive. We’ll be celebrating all this and more as the “rebel borough” when we are the 2027 London Borough of Culture. Haringey’s people are a huge asset, with knowledge, expertise, and passion. Our staff members embody our organisational values: Caring, Creative, Courageous, Collaborative and Community-focused. These values keep us looking forward, ambitious for the future, and continuously striving to do our very best for all of our residents.

Working for Haringey
At Haringey Council we are committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included, and able to be their best at work. We recognise the benefits of a diverse workforce and welcome applications from all ethnicities and communities so that we continue to make a difference to our residents and community. Our benefits package includes a leave entitlement of 31 days plus bank holidays, potential hybrid working opportunities, health and wellbeing support, a generous local government pension scheme and a range of discount schemes across leisure and culture that provide both financial and money-saving discounts.

Requirements

Experience
Substantial experience managing complex litigation matters across multiple areas of law including housing, enforcement, judicial review, licensing, debt recovery, commercial property and anti-social behaviour. Proven ability to provide strategic legal advice and represent clients in court. Previous supervisory or management experience is essential.

About You
You are a qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive with strong advocacy, drafting and advisory skills. You can provide commercially focused legal solutions in a politically sensitive environment. You are confident leading and developing teams, managing competing priorities and building effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels. You are a strategic thinker who thrives on complex challenges and is passionate about delivering outstanding public sector legal services.
