About the Role
Ealing Council serves the residents and businesses of London’s third largest borough, located in the heart of west London. We prioritise the needs of our 385,000 residents and focus on improving services, performance, and value for money. As the Monitoring Officer, you will work closely with the Chief Executive, Strategic Leadership Team, Cabinet Members, and elected councillors to ensure the council operates lawfully, ethically, and transparently. You will lead the development of the council’s constitution and governance framework, provide expert legal advice on strategic decisions, and champion high standards of conduct and decision-making.
You will lead a team of dedicated professionals committed to delivering customer-focused, enabling services that support transformation and continuous improvement. You will also be responsible for the oversight and challenge of service budgets and the legal services trading account.

Experience
- Qualified solicitor, barrister, or legal executive.
- Extensive experience in local government law, governance, and ethical standards.
- Proven track record of working within or with local government.
- Expert knowledge and understanding of local government law and practice.
- Significant experience providing strategic professional legal and governance advice to senior management and elected members.
- Experience leading and developing high-performing teams delivering high-quality support services and continuous improvement.
- Ability to work effectively in a complex political environment.
