About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and reliable Electrical Engineer to join our Estates team at Newham University Hospital. This permanent role involves carrying out maintenance, repairs, and installations across a range of electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems, with a primary focus on electrical discipline. You will play a key part in ensuring a safe, compliant, and efficient environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
Working under the supervision of the Estates Officer, you will complete both planned and reactive maintenance tasks to ensure service continuity. You will collaborate closely with clinical, technical, and management staff to deliver a high-quality service across the hospital estate.
Key responsibilities include:
- Carrying out maintenance, repairs, and installations of electrical services and systems
- Diagnosing and repairing faults promptly, ensuring reactive work is completed within agreed timescales
- Supporting pre-planned maintenance (PPM), testing, and inspection of electrical systems
- Liaising with the Helpdesk Administrator to ensure all jobs are tracked and recorded accurately
- Maintaining and repairing associated equipment, including catering, alarm, and essential building systems
- Adhering to health and safety standards and hospital policies at all times
- Collaborating with Estates and clinical teams, providing technical advice and ensuring minimal disruption to services
- Participating in an on-call rota (1 in 4 weeks) to provide emergency cover outside normal working hours with overtime paid
Experience
- Proven experience in planned and reactive electrical maintenance, ideally within a hospital or commercial setting
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving abilities
About you
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team
- Good communication skills and a customer-focused approach
- Willingness to undertake specialist training, e.g. Medical Gases or Legionella Competent Person
- Competent with documentation and reporting associated with maintenance activities
Qualifications
- City & Guilds 2230 Level 3, or
- NVQ 2356 / 2357, or
- City & Guilds 2330 Level 3 in Electrical Installation and AM2, or
- Level 3 in Electrotechnical Services
