About the Role
Are you a committed, experienced, qualified and knowledgeable social worker looking for a challenging and rewarding role? Croydon Council is seeking skilled social workers to empower and support people who need signposting, community support, or direct assistance from the Council. In these changing times, the Council Leadership strongly supports statutory functions, including Adult Social Care, with clear priorities and a stable, supportive environment.
As an Experienced Social Worker, you will primarily focus on case work with some light supervision responsibilities. This role is ideal for those with over two years post-qualifying experience who may be starting to supervise but are not yet ready to deputize for a Manager. It offers the opportunity to undertake more complex work without moving into management.
You will join a team with low vacancy rates and minimal use of agency staff, supported by dedicated Training Officers and a Principal Social Worker who assists with staff welfare, practice, and Continuing Professional Development (CPD). The Council is innovative, having recently upgraded electronic recording systems, implemented “Magic Notes” for efficient assessments and reports, and is working with health and third sector partners on data sharing systems. New IT equipment rollout is also underway to support staff.
Croydon offers excellent transport links, friendly colleagues, and strong support for flexible and remote working arrangements. The Council promotes career progression, professional development, and manageable caseloads supported by a comprehensive learning and development programme, including a strong Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) scheme.
The role involves locality and community-focused working with an emphasis on Strength Based practice, including work with older people and their families, as well as residents affected by hoarding and self-neglect behaviours.
Croydon Council Benefits
Croydon Council provides one of the best benefits schemes in local government, including flexible working, generous annual leave entitlement, and a comprehensive employee benefits programme designed to support a healthy work-life balance. Experience
