About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Fire Door Engineer to join our multi-disciplinary Building Services Team, supporting the delivery of safe, compliant and high-quality fire door installation and maintenance across the site. Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, you will play a vital role in ensuring all fire doors and passive fire systems are installed, inspected and maintained to the correct regulatory and technical standards. This role combines hands-on carpentry with technical compliance and is key to ensuring building safety is upheld at all times.
As a Fire Door Engineer, you will work both independently and as part of the wider maintenance team, carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive works, completing fire door surveys, identifying defects, and applying suitable corrective actions. You will also be involved in fire-stopping works and provide detailed reports following inspections, recommending remedial actions where required.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, inspect, maintain and repair fire doors and frames in line with regulatory standards and recognised accreditation schemes (e.g. BM Trada / IFC).
- Carry out both planned and reactive maintenance tasks as directed by the Technical Services Manager.
- Support wider fabric and building services maintenance as part of a small multi-skilled team.
- Apply appropriate fire-stopping measures and ensure all passive fire protection is compliant.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, works carried out and any corrective actions.
- Support the supervision of contractors and assist site teams when required.
- Gain familiarity with and support the operation of Building Management Systems (BMS) and planned maintenance systems.
- Assist with staff training where required and provide technical guidance on passive fire systems.
Experience
- Proven experience installing, upgrading and maintaining fire doors and frames.
- Strong carpentry background with an understanding of fire-stopping methods and standards.
- Knowledge of British Standards relating to fire doors and passive fire protection.
- Good awareness of health & safety in a live site environment.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a maintenance team.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and compliance.

Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 or City & Guilds in Carpentry & Joinery.
- Passive fire qualifications or fire door accreditation (BM Trada / IFC) are desirable but not essential.
