WSP is seeking a Fluvial Geomorphologist/Hydromorphologist to join the Catchment Science team, specialising in fluvial geomorphology, Water Framework Directive (WFD), natural flood management (NFM), nature-based solutions (NbS), weir removal, river and catchment enhancement, and biodiversity net gain (BNG) for watercourses. You will play a key role in delivering our growth strategy for Hydromorphology, providing mentoring and technical support to our growing team. Day-to-day responsibilities include undertaking fluvial geomorphology and WFD assessments for a diverse project portfolio, contributing to the development and delivery of internal training materials, leading and assisting in proposal writing, undertaking watercourse BNG assessments and enhancements to achieve 10% net gain, producing high-quality reports, scheduling and budget management, collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams, and contributing to business development for the hydromorphology service line.
The hydromorphology team is rapidly growing and provides technical expertise to a diverse client base including Rail, Highways, Local Authority, Housing, and Private Development sectors. Our portfolio includes fluvial audits, erosion monitoring, sediment studies, geomorphology and WFD assessments for flood alleviation and infrastructure projects, natural flood management and natural capital opportunities, channel design for river diversions, and developing new hydromorphology assessment methods. Experience
Strong professional experience and track record in fluvial geomorphology and WFD, including field survey planning, leading and coordinating large projects, and managing a dispersed team of surveyors. Experience in project management including management of subcontractors and associates. Experience in undertaking WFD assessments.
About you
Experienced and enthusiastic, flexible self-starter capable of independent work and teamwork. Highly motivated, numerate with excellent communication skills. Ability to apply technical knowledge to analyse problems and find solutions to new challenges.
Qualifications
Relevant degree (BSc or MSc) in environmental science, geography or equivalent. Full membership of CIWEM, CIEEM, RGS and ideally chartered for this grade is preferred but WSP will support and mentor candidates on their chartership journey. Detailed specialist knowledge of one or more of the following is advantageous: river channel design, sediment sampling and analysis, GIS skills, BNG River Condition Assessment (RCA) with RCA accreditation desirable, WFD, fluvial audit.
