About the Role
We are seeking an exceptional Research Data Scientist to join the National Institute of Health and Care Research (NIHR) Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) in Ealing. Ealing is a diverse and vibrant borough with a population of around 386,000, facing significant health inequalities linked to social determinants such as education, housing, employment, and social connection. This role is part of a £5 million NIHR-funded initiative to build capacity and infrastructure for meaningful research on these health determinants, aiming to promote healthier, more equitable communities.
The HDRC Ealing partnership includes local community organisations and leading research institutions, bringing together diverse knowledge and participatory, action-oriented research approaches. As the Research Data Scientist, you will lead the data analysis and data science efforts to support rigorous quantitative and mixed-method research on the building blocks of health. You will collaborate closely with council staff, academic partners, and community organisations to deliver high-quality statistical analysis, support research funding applications, and build capacity within the council for data interpretation and use.
This role offers a unique opportunity to influence culture change within Ealing Council towards greater use of research data to inform action and policy. You will be at the heart of a collaborative programme that values knowledge exchange and organisational capacity development, contributing to health equity and connected communities in Ealing.
The Council Plan prioritises tackling inequalities and fostering connected communities, supported by the new Health & Wellbeing Strategy 2023-2028. Ealing is one of 30 NIHR Health Determinants Research Collaborations nationally and one of four in London, making this an exciting time to join and make a positive impact.
Experience
Proven expertise in statistical analysis and research data science, particularly in quantitative and mixed-method research. Experience working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders including local government, academic institutions, and community organisations is highly desirable.
About you
Passionate about health equity and social determinants of health. Strong communicator and collaborator with the ability to influence organisational culture and promote knowledge exchange. Motivated to work in a dynamic, multi-sector partnership environment and committed to delivering high-quality research that informs action.
Qualifications
A relevant degree or higher qualification in data science, statistics, epidemiology, public health, or a related discipline. Demonstrable skills in data analysis software and research methodologies are essential. Right to work in the UK is required.
