The Head of Health and Safety is a key senior leadership role within Mencap, responsible as the organisational lead on all health and safety matters. You will have a significant role is supporting the confidence and knowledge of other leaders and managers and mitigating health and safety risks to the people we support and our colleagues.
You will help create a culture where the proactive identification and management of risk is viewed positively as a means of safeguarding the people we support.
As well as being responsible for the design and implementation of risk management standards, ensuring that appropriate risk identification, mitigation and escalation takes place throughout the organisation. You will lead on achieving external health and safety accreditation and commissioning external health and safety audits.
You will represent Mencap externally in health and safety forums and influences application of policy relating to health and safety in the learning disability environment, advocating for best practice. You will also act as the organisational lead on serious incident reviews, internal case reviews, and the co-ordination of unexpected death reviews to include the LeDeR review process.
We are looking for someone who:
- is passionate and knowledgeable about all things Health and Safety
- is a great communicator and enjoys working with, and positively influencing, all stakeholders up to and including Board level
- is a strong people manager who loves helping colleagues grow and thrive
- has significant previous experience in a similar role
This role will be a full time (37.5 hours per week) permanent role. While you will be based at home, there is requirement to travel around the UK.
