About the Role
As a Healthcare Security Officer at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, you will patrol the internal and external grounds of the Trust estate to protect buildings and contents from fire and theft. You will respond immediately to fire alerts, ensuring compliance with fire safety procedures and legislation. Your role includes assisting Emergency Department and Mental Health teams with patients under the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act, monitoring patients as requested, and managing incidents involving violent or disruptive behaviour. You will provide courteous assistance and direction to visitors, undertake duty escorts, and report security defects promptly. You will investigate and log all incidents, liaising with the Metropolitan Police when necessary, and promote security awareness throughout the Trust.
You will respond to intruder alarms, conduct parking permit checks to deter fraudulent use, and perform crime prevention activities. Monitoring CCTV cameras across the estate and controlling vehicle movement and parking enforcement are key responsibilities. You will manage lost and found property, enforce the Trust's No Smoking and ID Access Control policies, and handle access control systems once trained. Additional duties may be assigned consistent with the grade and service needs.

Experience
Previous security experience is desirable but not essential. Experience working in a healthcare or similar environment would be advantageous.

You must be reliable, observant, and able to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential to interact professionally with patients, staff, visitors, and emergency services. You should be able to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating tact, diplomacy, and assertiveness when enforcing Trust policies.

Qualifications
Relevant security qualifications or training will be an advantage. You must be willing to undertake any mandatory training required by the Trust, including fire safety and access control systems training.
