About the Role
We are seeking a Higher Scientist (TBVAC) to join the Research and Development Function within the Science, Research and Innovation group at the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency. This fixed-term full-time role is based in South Mimms and runs until 18th August 2027. The post holder will support tuberculosis research focused on vaccine development, immunological assessment, vaccinology, and studying pulmonary and extrapulmonary TB pathogenesis using both in vitro and in vivo models.
Key responsibilities include supporting the tuberculosis research programme, developing and applying immunological expertise such as flow cytometry and microbiology techniques, managing grant-funded projects, and utilising cellular immunoassays. The role also involves contributing to the smooth running and procurement processes of containment levels 2 and 3 laboratories, ensuring health and safety compliance, and fostering effective communication and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
The position offers the opportunity to work within a team of around 60 scientists across 8 research groups, delivering world-leading research innovation and public health impact through an ambitious Science Strategy.
Experience
- Experience in immunological or molecular assays, including flow cytometry, cell-based assays, RNA/DNA extractions, PCR.
- Knowledge and practical experience with in vitro or in vivo animal models to evaluate vaccine potency, immunogenicity, or safety is desirable.
- Experience managing and processing large complex data sets and maintaining databases.
- Demonstrated experience working at Containment Level III, ideally with Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
