About the Role
The London Borough of Bromley is seeking a Homelessness Prevention Visiting Officer to manage a caseload within our Triage & Prevention Services and to play a key role in shaping the Council’s approach to homelessness. Reporting to the Team Manager Triage & Prevention, you will work as part of the Triage & Prevention Service carrying out home visits for those at risk of homelessness. You will ensure services are high-performing, financially sustainable and focused on delivering positive outcomes for Bromley residents.
Key responsibilities include managing a complex and demanding caseload in a busy, front-line, pressurised service. You will routinely undertake home visits to fully understand the situation of those at risk of homelessness and provide innovative, tailored options to prevent homelessness through advice, advocacy, negotiation and mediation to avoid the need for temporary accommodation.
You will also verify households’ circumstances through home visits to establish occupancy and ensure that those placed in temporary accommodation are residing there as their main residence. All responsibilities must be performed with a customer service and performance management focus.
Providing confident, professional advice to applicants on homelessness-related matters and fostering a culture of accountability, inclusivity and service excellence are essential aspects of this role.
Experience
Substantial experience in homelessness within a local authority or similar complex organisation, with a proven track record of achieving successful outcomes to intervene early and prevent homelessness and the need for temporary accommodation.
About you
- Extensive knowledge and experience across housing.
- Strong understanding of housing legislation, regulation and current national policy.
- Proven ability to operate effectively in a political environment and provide clear advice to applicants.
- Strong collaborative, communication and partnership-working skills.
