The Horticultural Sub Editor is responsible for all sub-editing and horticultural fact-checking of content across Gardeners' World platforms including print, web, social, podcast and video. Reporting to the Head of Multimedia Operations, you will collaborate with platform leads, content creators and brand colleagues to ensure all Gardeners' World content is horticulturally, grammatically, factually and legally accurate — ready for publication and tailored for its intended platform and audience.

Key responsibilities include:
- Sub-editing editorial content across all media, ensuring horticultural accuracy with correct botanical and common plant names in line with current naming conventions
- Ensuring content is grammatically, factually and legally correct, consistent with the Gardeners' World house style and tone of voice
- Preparing content for publication including headlines, metadata and accessibility standards such as alt text for digital platforms
- Sub-editing marketing and commercial content with the same accuracy
- Working with InDesign and the gardenersworld.com CMS, using Monday.com to track progress
- Checking audio and visual content for horticultural accuracy as required
- Assisting with technical horticultural queries from the Gardeners' World team
- Helping maintain and develop the Gardeners' World horticultural style guide and terminology
- Completing work to deadlines set by the Head of Multimedia Operations
- Championing high-quality sub-editing and horticultural accuracy across the brand team to reduce recurring errors
- Complying with BBC Editorial Guidelines and BBC Magazines Commercial Guidelines

Requirements

Experience
- Proven experience of sub-editing editorial content across multiple platforms
- Proven experience of bringing print pages to completion in InDesign
- Experience of using a CMS to sub-edit digital and newsletter content
- Familiarity with workflow tools such as Monday.com
- Good working knowledge of media and defamation law
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to juggle multiple deadlines and workflows

About you
You are meticulous, passionate about horticulture and editorial accuracy, and able to work effectively across different media platforms. You have strong communication skills and thrive in a fast-paced environment where deadlines are key.

Qualifications
A horticultural qualification or equivalent demonstrable expertise is required.
