About the Role
As a Housing Officer within Westminster City Council's Housing Services, you will manage a designated patch of properties including social housing tenants, council leaseholders, community supported residents, and out of borough homes. You will provide a professional, high-quality service, taking ownership of issues that arise and maintaining a friendly, approachable presence on estates through home visits, quarterly inspections, and local surgeries. You will lead on the development and publicity of estate action plans in collaboration with key residents.
You will work closely with Council and external services to support residents, respond promptly to enquiries, complaints, and call back requests, and carry out reviews and renewals related to healthy home visits, audits, under-occupation visits, and joint housing needs. Safeguarding vulnerable residents is a key responsibility, including investigating concerns, making welfare calls, and supporting victims of domestic violence through referrals.
Additional duties include managing casework effectively, leading on low-level nuisance cases, working with the Housing ASB team, handling tenancy breaches and enforcement actions, reducing lost rental income by ensuring prompt lettings, collaborating with repairs services for void property inspections, managing viewing processes, assisting with repairs investigations, and conducting initial inquiries into suspected fraud.
This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact within a high-profile housing service in a vibrant and diverse community.
Experience
Experience providing high-quality public-facing services is essential. While direct housing management experience is desirable, it is not required.
About you
You should be enthusiastic, motivated, and people-focused with excellent communication skills. You must be able to work independently in demanding frontline situations while maintaining a professional and approachable manner. Strong organisational and prioritisation skills are important, as is confidence in using handheld lone working devices and IT systems. Some knowledge of tenancy law and tenancy management is advantageous.
You will be a collaborative team player committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion, empowering and engaging residents and colleagues alike. Flexibility and adaptability are required to meet the demands of the role, including occasional evening work and emergency responses.
Westminster City Council is committed to supporting Care Leavers into employment and offers guaranteed interviews to eligible candidates under this scheme.
Qualifications
