Colchester
Housing Support Worker
Peabody
£23,390
Full-time
Description
Here at Peabody, we have an opportunity for a Housing Support Worker to work with our emergency transitional adult customers on a permanent basis across two of our schemes in Colchester called Sagewood Place and Friars Court.
At this scheme we focus our support on people who are experiencing multiple disadvantages or have had traumatic experiences. Many of them have experienced homelessness, substance misuse, involvement with the criminal justice system and mental ill health.
The weekly hours are Monday to Friday 9AM to 5PM.
What we’re looking for:
Have you got the life skills and experience it takes to support our homeless customers in their journey towards independent living?
Are you an enthusiastic support worker with a strong desire to work with vulnerable and complex people to achieve positive outcomes?
Can you work just as effectively as part of a team as you can by yourself?
Do you have great IT (Word//Excel) and communication skills with a knack for creating good professional working relationships?
If so, this role is perfect for you!
A bit about the role:
As a Housing Support Worker, you will be working with a team of highly motivated compassionate, and dedicated colleagues supporting a caseload of adult customers who are homeless. You will need to meet with each customer weekly to help them with their goals and discuss their progress. And, when someone's ready to move on, we will rely on you to help them access the housing register or look for suitable rented accommodation.
Put simply, if you’ve ever wanted a job where you can really make a positive difference to someone’s life, this is it.
Relevant experience would be an advantage, as would an understanding of safeguarding and knowledge of the benefit system. But just as important may well be skills and knowledge which you have in other areas which you can share to foster positive experiences for our customers with energy and enthusiasm whilst being kind and empathic.
Some of the key results for the role include:
Supporting customers to access housing.
Helping our customers to understand housing benefits available to them.
Ensuring our customers live in a safe and secure environment.
Undertaking health and safety assessments.
Completing risk assessments
This role will require an Enhanced DBS check.
