About the Role
The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) is responsible for the UK’s criminal and civil justice systems, employing over 88,000 staff across England and Wales. MoJ People and Capability supports the organisation by enabling its people to be the best they can be, delivering high-quality HR services across the Justice family. This role offers an exciting opportunity to provide strategic HR partnering to senior leaders within HM Prisons and Probation Service (HMPPS), supporting the delivery of public protection and reducing reoffending.
This position sits within the HR Business Partner (HMPPS) Team, the front-facing arm of the People & Capability Function, supporting multiple business units across HMPPS. The post holder will partner Governors and senior leaders within the Prison and Probation Services or National Services, supporting business change in a complex environment.
Key responsibilities include working in partnership with senior leaders to deliver people priorities, facilitating access to central services, and implementing innovative people initiatives. The role involves strategic input on HR topics, coaching leaders, supporting change management, resourcing and retention, leadership development, attendance and performance management, employee engagement, and promoting inclusion and well-being.
The post holder will operate as a qualified or aspiring HR professional, using generalist knowledge and experience to advise senior leaders on aligning people and business priorities. Line management responsibilities are common in this role.
Experience
- Proven ability to build and manage diverse relationships including senior stakeholders.
- Experience working within an HR team.
- Experience delivering HR plans, people management, and supporting others to optimise staff performance.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to analyse and interpret data to support evidence-based business decisions.

Qualifications
