About the Role
The Ministry of Justice’s central Strategy, Priorities and Innovation Directorate (SPI) is recruiting permanently for a Senior Strategy Adviser (SEO, Band B equivalent). This role is based within the Strategy Unit, which provides integrated, system-wide advice to ministers on important policy, transformation and delivery issues across the justice system. The Strategy Unit supports strategic coordination, intelligence gathering, and strategic projects to help shape long-term outcomes for the justice system and ensure alignment with departmental and government priorities.
As a Senior Strategy Adviser, you will undertake challenging and varied work, balancing urgent commissions with longer-term projects. You will have the opportunity to work independently, engage with senior leaders, and contribute to a wide range of justice system topics, from prison capacity management to the future shape of the justice system. The role offers variety, flexibility, and the chance to develop your knowledge of government and the justice system.
The Strategy Unit is a collaborative team with diverse experience, welcoming applicants from all backgrounds. The team also participates in corporate activities such as learning and development, induction, and staff engagement, fostering an inclusive and supportive working environment.
Experience
Applicants should demonstrate the ability to think critically and analytically, assessing trade-offs and breaking down complex problems. Experience in interpreting and analysing diverse information sources to develop strategic advice is essential. Candidates must be able to build relationships and work collaboratively across departments and with external partners to achieve consensus and further MoJ’s interests.
About you
You should be sensitive to the wider context of government priorities and able to provide strategic insight that ensures clear, effective, and relevant communications. Flexibility and the ability to work at pace in an ambiguous environment with changing priorities are crucial. You will be expected to manage your workload effectively while supporting your peers and adapting to new tasks.
Qualifications
There are no specific qualification requirements stated for this role. However, applicants must be eligible to work in the UK and able to pass the necessary security checks, including a criminal record check and baseline personnel security standard checks.
