About the Role
WSP is seeking a Hydrologist or Water Resource Engineer to join our UK and Ireland Mine Water team. This full-time, permanent role is based in either our London or Naas office. You will work on a variety of projects primarily within the mining sector, with opportunities to contribute to other sectors such as infrastructure, manufacturing, and land development. Key responsibilities include contributing to water resource aspects of mining projects such as environmental assessments, permitting, engineering design, ESG considerations, and water stewardship. You will conduct climate, hydrological, and hydraulic assessments; develop water management plans; perform water balance and climate change modelling; and design water management infrastructure. Additional duties include dam break analyses, consequence classification assessments, and preparing technical documentation for senior review. You will also support non-mining projects including Flood Risk Assessments and SuDS design, travel for site work as required, assist in client and business development, and collaborate closely with colleagues and senior staff to meet project goals. A strong safety culture is essential, promoting health and safety awareness and adhering to WSP policies.

Requirements

Experience
- Demonstrable experience conducting hydrologic and hydraulic assessments and/or designing water management infrastructure
- Previous experience working on mining sector projects preferred
- Experience in consulting or engineering environments advantageous

Qualifications
- BSc degree (or equivalent) in Water Resource Engineering, Civil Engineering (with hydrology and hydraulics modules), Geography, or Environmental Sciences (with hydrology module)
- MSc in hydrology and/or hydraulic design is advantageous
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook)
- Competency with GIS and CAD systems desirable
- Competency in programming languages such as Python, R, or C is a plus
- Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modelling software (e.g., HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, PC SWMM) preferred
- Knowledge of GoldSim Monte Carlo Simulation software advantageous
- Membership of a relevant professional organisation is desirable
- Additional language skills are a plus
