About the Role
As an IPS Employment Specialist, you will manage a caseload of 20-25 individuals who have experienced mental health or substance misuse challenges and wish to return to work. You will support clients by helping them understand their skills, aspirations, and goals through employment profiling, job matching, action planning, and case management. Your focus will be on rapid job search, utilising local support networks to help overcome barriers to employment. You will assess and support individual needs related to work, including in-work benefits, travel, and health management, ensuring ongoing support to retain employment.

You will deliver and promote employment workshops, surgeries, and job clubs for those not on your caseload. Employer engagement is a key part of the role, involving sourcing job opportunities, accessing the hidden labour market, and building relationships with employers, training providers, and colleges to secure education and paid employment opportunities. You will provide advice and support to employers, including negotiating adjustments and maintaining contact to ensure job retention.

This role involves implementing the evidence-based Individual Placement and Support (IPS) model, focusing on person-centred, high-quality service delivery and achieving sustained job outcomes. Accurate record keeping, monitoring, evaluation, and strong IT skills are essential to maintain casework and service progress.

You will also promote the employment service profile and co-production within the clinical team, raising expectations about service users’ ability to access paid work.

Experience
Experience working with people with mental health support needs or similar groups, or in employment support services is helpful but not essential. Experience in roles requiring persuasive communication, such as marketing, recruitment, or sales, is highly valued.

About you
You will have strong and persuasive communication skills, excellent time management, and exceptional organisational abilities. You must be able to initiate and develop relationships with a variety of individuals and engage employers through multiple methods including telephone and face-to-face contact. Efficiency, responsibility, and a high level of personal organisation are essential.

Strong IT skills, including proficiency with word processing and data systems, are required to maintain accurate records and support monitoring and evaluation.
