About the Role
As Kitchen Manager, your primary focus is delivering great food for students while managing the overall school catering operation. You will set and drive standards, manage budgets, and lead your team to ensure a positive, high-quality service. Building strong relationships with your clients, students, and colleagues will be key to your success.
Reporting to an Area Manager, you will oversee a team of front-line catering staff, ensuring smooth daily operations and exceptional food service. ISS FS Education serves around 90,000 meals daily across primary, secondary, SEN schools, colleges, and universities.
Your responsibilities will include leading, managing, and motivating your catering team to deliver consistently high standards of food and service; ensuring compliance with Health & Safety, Food Safety, and personal hygiene standards, acting as a Health & Safety champion for your team; maintaining and monitoring food quality, menu compliance, and approved supplier use; building and maintaining positive relationships with clients, students, and colleagues; managing financial controls including food, labour, and materials to meet budget targets; operating kitchen systems such as Cypad, Trade Simple, and Saffron efficiently; and assisting with recruitment, training, and development of your team to meet operational needs.
Experience
Experience as a Catering Manager, or potential to develop from a catering assistant role with additional training.
Strong knowledge of school catering with excellent food preparation and cooking skills.
Understanding of Health & Safety, accident prevention, and basic profit and loss management.

Qualifications
Level 2 Food Safety Certificate (or must complete within first three months).
