About the Role
Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Lead Package Manager to join our Major Projects team working on the iconic Old Oak Common station development in London. This £1 billion HS2 project will deliver the UK’s best-connected rail station, featuring six underground platforms and up to eight platforms on the adjacent Great Western Main Line. The station will provide high-speed rail services to the Midlands, central London, Scotland, the North, and direct links to three major airports, incorporating passenger and retail facilities to ensure an exceptional customer experience.
As Lead Package Manager, you will lead the Conventional Station Superstructure package, covering Structural Steel, Secondary Steel, and Envelope works. You will manage three subcontractors delivering these works and oversee a multi-disciplinary team. Your responsibilities include managing subcontractor performance, raising health, safety and environmental issues, and coordinating day-to-day interface activities. You will develop construction sequence strategies, analyze scope, identify gaps, produce procurement documentation, liaise with designers, and propose value engineering improvements.
Your role covers the full package lifecycle: tendering, procurement, delivery, commissioning, and handover. You will ensure contract and commercial control in line with NEC3 compliance, manage change, forecast costs, and report progress. You will own the programme by reviewing schedules, reporting to clients, and conducting trend analysis. Leading multidisciplinary teams, you will coach, plan resources, and resolve conflicts. You will manage risks and stakeholders, including technical, commercial, safety, and political risks, and secure third-party approvals from HS2, Network Rail, TfL, and utilities. Ensuring safety and environmental compliance and monitoring subcontractor progress, operatives, plant, and design deliverables are key aspects of the role.
At Balfour Beatty VINCI SYTRA, we are more than a construction partner; we are a team committed to shaping the future of infrastructure. Working on transformative projects like Old Oak Common Station, you will be part of an innovative, inclusive, and collaborative environment that values Leadership, Respect, Integrity, and Safety. We empower our people with opportunities to grow professionally while contributing to one of the UK’s most significant transport hubs. Join us and help build the future with a team that truly values your expertise and commitment.
