About the Role
The Financial Times is seeking a commercially minded Legal Counsel to join our highly regarded in-house legal team for a fixed term maternity cover. You will provide dedicated legal support to key business divisions including corporate subscriptions, licensing, global conferences and events, thought leadership, and specialist titles. This role involves advising on a wide range of commercial contracts, negotiating terms with external clients, and managing contract templates to reflect evolving business needs. You will also deliver training to business partners and leverage leading legal AI tools to streamline workflows and enhance legal service delivery. Experience
Solicitor qualified in the UK with strong commercial contract drafting skills. Proven legal knowledge including copyright, licensing, indemnity, and liability issues. Experience advising on contracts across multiple industries and jurisdictions. Previous in-house experience is desirable.

Commercially aware with the ability to align legal advice to strategic business objectives. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Highly organised, flexible, and able to prioritise effectively while keeping colleagues and managers informed. Able to build strong relationships within the legal team and wider business. A forward-thinking approach to legal practice with an interest in or practical experience using advanced legal AI tools to improve efficiency is advantageous.

Qualifications
UK Solicitor qualification is essential. No additional qualifications required, but a proactive attitude and willingness to embrace technology and innovation are important.
