About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Local Offer & PfA Event Coordinator to join Cognus on a permanent basis. Cognus supports schools, families, and children/young people to access, enjoy and thrive in educational settings both in school and in the community.
Local authorities must publish a Local Offer, which provides clear, comprehensive, accessible, and up-to-date information about local provision across education, health, and social care for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including those with an Education Health & Care Plan (EHCP) and those without. The Local Offer currently sits within the online Sutton Information Hub.
The Local Offer has two key purposes:
- To provide clear, comprehensive, accessible and up-to-date information about the available provision and how to access it.
- To influence and inform provision so that it is more responsive to local needs and aspirations by directly involving disabled children, young people with SEN, their parents, and service providers.
Each year, the London Borough of Sutton hosts a Preparing for Adulthood (PfA) event designed specifically for young people with SEND. This event brings together a wide range of local services, organisations, and professionals to showcase support available to help young people navigate their journey into adulthood. Covering education, employment, health, housing, and community life, the event offers a vibrant and informative space for young people and their families to explore opportunities, ask questions, and make connections that support their future aspirations.
This role will ensure the two key purposes of the Local Offer are achieved through coordination, collection, and dissemination of information via the published online Local Offer. It will also ensure effective planning and hosting of the PfA Event in the local area to provide relevant information for children and young people with SEND aged 0-25 years.
The role will be based out of the PfA Hub in Sutton one day a week to enable direct engagement with SEND families and facilitate the collection of feedback to inform the development of the Local Offer.
Experience
Experience in coordinating events or managing information related to SEND or educational services is desirable. Experience working with children, young people, families, and community organisations is advantageous.
About you
You will be organised, proactive, and able to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders including families, professionals, and service providers. You should be committed to improving outcomes for children and young people with SEND and have a passion for community engagement and inclusion.
Qualifications
Relevant qualifications in education, social care, community development, or event management would be beneficial but are not essential. A positive attitude, willingness to learn, and commitment to the role are key.
