This is a 10 PA (programmed activity) post, with approximately 8 PAs dedicated to direct clinical care and 2 PAs allocated for supporting programmed activities initially. The timetable includes fixed and flexible theatre sessions covering consultant leave, urgent cancer surgery, trauma, and emergency lists. Flexibility is required to adapt to last-minute staff shortages and to accommodate individual preferences and clinical interests. Part-time working arrangements can be considered in line with national agreements.

About the Role
The successful candidate will deliver a wide range of anaesthetic services across all specialties represented at Whittington Health, maintaining high standards of clinical practice. Responsibilities include providing anaesthetic cover for scheduled and emergency procedures, participating in pre-operative assessment, and acting as consultant of the day in a troubleshooting capacity. The post holder will adhere to GMC professional standards and guidelines set by the Royal College of Anaesthetists and the Association of Anaesthetists. Supporting programmed activities encompass teaching and training, continuing professional development (CPD), audit and governance, job planning, appraisal, and departmental management. The job plan will be regularly reviewed to ensure it remains within the 10 PA contract. The role also involves educating postgraduate doctors and nurses, participating in undergraduate teaching and examination, and supporting research activities as appropriate. Experience
Proven experience in anaesthesia across a broad range of specialties is essential. The candidate should demonstrate the ability to work flexibly and adapt to new working practices, including managing urgent and emergency cases.

Qualifications
Full GMC registration with a licence to practise and appropriate CCT or equivalent in Anaesthesia. Adherence to the standards set by the Royal College of Anaesthetists and the Association of Anaesthetists is required.
