The Stations team within WSP’s Rail business is actively seeking a Principal / Associate Mechanical Engineer to lead teams delivering mechanical building services designs for Railway Stations and other Railway Buildings across the UK and internationally. This role includes all aspects of technical delivery, work winning and client engagement with opportunities for onward progression.

The team offers excellent opportunities for the right candidate to enhance their career and deliver some of the most prestigious Rail Stations projects in the UK.

Key responsibilities include producing and supervising high quality, industry-leading building designs, delivering highly sustainable, low carbon designs aligned with WSP’s and clients’ net zero carbon commitments, and sharing knowledge and technical skills with colleagues globally. You will work with initiative, supported by specialist expertise, to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.

You will supervise the completion of detailed designs and the work of others, maximise joint learning opportunities, interpret client specification requirements, and design pipework (heating, cooling, hot and cold water systems), ventilation systems, and select plant and equipment such as Air Handling Units, Fans, Pumps, Pressurisation Units, Boilers, Heat emitters, Chillers, ductwork and pipework ancillaries.

You will have a detailed working knowledge of compliance requirements including Building Regulations Part L and other MEP sustainable and Net Zero design standards. You will be involved in delivering major railway stations from early concept through to handover, with exceptional support to enhance your capabilities and career growth.

You will work closely with a team of over 70 mechanical, electrical and Public Health Engineers on exciting and challenging projects for clients including Network Rail, HS2, TfL, Transport for The North, TfGM, Nexus, Local Authorities, Principal Contractors and Private Developers. Reporting to a senior member of the stations team, you will contribute to some of the most exciting multi-disciplinary Rail stations projects.

Requirements

Experience
- Mechanical building services design in the Rail environment, including heating, cooling, hot and cold water, and ventilation systems
- Understanding of Network Rail and/or London Underground standards
- Design of controls/BMS for mechanical systems
- Design of above ground plumbing, waste, rainwater disposal and drainage systems

Qualifications
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or equivalent with a UK Engineering Institution
