Description
An excellent opportunity… Brent is a tremendously vibrant London borough where the iconic arch of Wembley Stadium dominates the skyline. Spanning both inner and outer London, it is a borough of huge contrasts in terms of its economic, environmental, ethnic and social make up. Brent’s diversity is evident to all who visit our borough and our long history of ethnic and cultural diversity has created a place that is truly unique and valued by those who live and work here. The council is pursuing a far-reaching transformation agenda that better meets the needs of our community so it is an exciting time to join us. The Post This is a rare opportunity to join an award-winning team at the top of its game. As the second most senior role in the Communications Team, you’ll be responsible for effectively leading a team of eight to craft and deliver meaningful behaviour change campaigns that improve people’s lives. You’ll also promote and defend the council’s reputation in the media and ensure maximum exposure of projects both internally and externally. With a new Communications Strategy, a cross-council Strategic Change Programme and a fresh approach to Public Affairs all recently underway, this is an exciting time to join the council. This post will be at the heart of driving the success of these workstreams and reporting on our progress to senior officers and stakeholders. You’ll ensure the council’s priority projects are delivered on time, on budget and are on track to meet SMART objectives. This will involve owning and monitoring the operational communications grid and supporting team members to achieve excellence. Plus, you’ll manage our 24/7 media desk and lead on crisis communications, maintaining our strong media relationships and getting the council in the news for the right reasons. The Person We are looking for someone who can champion creativity across the organisation, to help Brent stay ahead of trends and inspire others to push the boundaries. We want an innovative, radical and bold thinker who can support the wider team and council to continually develop and improve. No two days are ever the same in this role. The successful candidate must be flexible and ready to respond rapidly to a range of different challenges in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment. You must have a specialist high-level knowledge of media relations and campaigns and a proven track-record of leading a team to deliver exceptional results. Experience working in local government or the public sector is preferred, but not a requirement. If this sounds like you, and you’re keen to work at the heart of an ambitious and forward-looking council, making a positive difference every day, Brent’s communications team could be the place for you.
