About the Role
The Cabinet Office is seeking a Pensions Senior Policy Adviser at Senior Executive Officer (SEO) level to join the Future Civil Service, Government Skills, Pensions and Operations team. This team is the strategic and functional centre for the Government People Function and human resources (HR) in the Civil Service, supporting over half a million civil servants from recruitment through to retirement.

The role involves providing expert policy advice on a range of public service pension schemes, including the Civil Service Pension Schemes, Royal Mail Statutory Pension Scheme, Ministerial Pension Scheme, Great Offices Pension Scheme, and the European Parliament United Kingdom Representatives Pension Scheme. You will lead the development of scheme-specific pension policy, manage valuation processes, admissions of new employers, and represent the Cabinet Office at cross-government and external forums.

This position requires close collaboration with ministers, departments, scheme administrators, and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with legislation and effective delivery of pension policy. You will also deputise for the Head of BAU Pensions Policy and contribute to the wider objectives and culture of the team.

The role supports the delivery of the Civil Service People Plan 2024-2027, which outlines key priorities and commitments to address people challenges across the Civil Service.

Requirements

Experience
- Proven track record of managing and developing staff.
- Strong understanding of UK pension scheme regulations and legislation.
- Experience working in the pension industry.
- Strong and effective stakeholder management skills with the ability to explain complex pension issues clearly.
- Experience working on public service pensions or private sector defined benefit schemes is desirable.

Qualifications
- Recognised Industry Pension Qualification at level 4 or above, or commitment to undertake such a qualification once in role.
