About the Role
The London Borough of Harrow has an exciting opportunity for a Practice Consultant to join Children’s Services. Reporting to the Service Manager, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality care to children, young people, and families. You will play a key role in developing and upholding professional standards, ensuring all work aligns with relevant legislation, policies, and procedures. As Children’s Services embeds a culture of strengths-based, collaborative, and evidence-led practice, you will be expected to model and champion this approach across the service.

In this role, you will provide supervision, direction, and guidance to a team of qualified social workers and support staff. You will manage complex casework in a manner responsive to corporate and national priorities and deputise for the Team Manager as required. This position requires a dedicated professional passionate about safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people who live in, access services from, or are looked after by the London Borough of Harrow.

The borough is easily accessible via the M1, M25, and A406 motorways.

Requirements

Experience
- Up to date working knowledge and understanding of relevant legislative and regulatory frameworks relating to children, young people, and families.
- Experience undertaking Parenting and Sibling assessments as directed by the Court and service needs. ParentAssess training is preferable but not essential.
- Experience undertaking complex assessments and supporting managers with auditing and placement tasks.
- Thorough knowledge of safeguarding processes and procedures.
- High level of case responsibility for children subject to care proceedings.
- Demonstrated ability to uphold best practice standards and evidence-based outcomes.

- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage a caseload with competing demands.
- Ability to chair meetings and formulate plans for children as required.
- Knowledge of leadership, management, and staff development techniques and skills.
- Ability to travel for business purposes.

Qualifications
- A recognised professional qualification in any relevant discipline.
- Evidence of wide-ranging continued professional development.
