About the Role
The London Borough of Harrow is seeking a Workshop Supervisor Master Technician to diagnose, maintain, and repair vehicles in compliance with strict Health & Safety regulations, O Licence requirements, and DVSA standards. You will support the strategic planning of fleet operations by applying professional technical methods and standards. This role involves supervising the delivery of the operational framework for the development, implementation, and promotion of fleet service initiatives within the Council. You will assist in developing and implementing management processes to ensure the effective and efficient use of resources.
You will actively contribute to Council-wide and Directorate initiatives by implementing operational priorities, including the coordinated use of vehicles and other service resources to best meet the Council’s operational objectives and the needs of Harrow’s citizens and businesses. You will assist in the development and supervision of workshop staff and coordinate the Council’s overall approach to achieve positive community outcomes. The role requires supporting and communicating with the Service Manager during maintenance and repair processes, producing and submitting all associated documentation in a timely manner, and demonstrating a willingness to accept technical and leadership training from internal and external sources.
You must hold relevant licences to drive and/or test vehicles and equipment, including an O Licence, and have knowledge of Health & Safety regulations and DVSA standards for both Light Goods and Heavy Goods Vehicles. You will observe the Council’s documented safe working practices and risk assessments at all times.
Experience
- Holding a current UK Drivers Licence with a vehicle available for use
- Holding a current UK Heavy Goods Vehicle Licence
- Undertaking MOT testing for Classes 4, 5, and 7
- Ensuring adherence to 'O' Licence and DVSA requirements for service vehicles and their operation
- Adapting to changing demands to meet objectives, overcome problems, and make well-considered decisions
- Managing conflicting demands and deadlines within own role and across other teams
- Successfully supervising Health & Safety issues within a workforce
- Supervising a large team effectively
- Performance-based supervision including managing challenging behaviour through regular meetings, achieving positive outcomes while maintaining effective working relationships and service delivery standards
- Working in a customer-focused, resident-facing service environment
- Acting as a role model by sharing knowledge and experience while respecting and valuing contributions from other team members

Qualifications
- Current UK Drivers Licence
- Current UK Heavy Goods Vehicle Licence
