About the Role

We are recruiting two talented Principal Planning Officers to join our Development Management Team in the London Borough of Ealing. This is a career-grade role with appointment level reflecting your experience and competencies, offering a clear, supported pathway to progress as you demonstrate growing technical leadership, case complexity, and impact.
You will lead a personal caseload of major and complex planning applications, managing cases from pre-application stage through to decision and delivery. Your role includes negotiating high-quality outcomes covering design, sustainability, and robust Section 106 packages. You will produce clear, balanced officer reports and present confidently at Planning Committee. Additionally, you will mentor and quality-assure colleagues, champion best practices, and drive service improvements including smarter digital ways of working.
Reporting to a Development Management Team Manager, you will work alongside experienced managers who will support your development and progression within one of the UK’s top-performing planning authorities. Experience
- Extensive understanding and proficiency in legislation and policies related to town and country planning.
- Demonstrated development management experience dealing with major schemes and complex projects.
- Significant senior-level team management experience within Development Management, preferably in the public sector.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, particularly when engaging with developers, strategic authorities, and key stakeholders.
- Advanced analytical, research, and numerical abilities.

Qualifications
- Membership or eligibility for membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).
