About the Role
At WSP, you will have the opportunity to work on landmark rail projects, collaborating with some of the brightest minds in the industry. You will provide RAM leadership and guidance across projects involving rail infrastructure, rolling stock, signalling, and more. Your responsibilities will include delivering BS EN 50126 RAM activities such as RAM plans, Functional Analysis, Functional Block Diagrams, reliability and availability apportionment, predictions and modelling, FMECAs, Fault Tree Analysis, Reliability Block Diagrams, DRACAS, and maintainability analyses.
You will work closely with team members to minimise project risks and ensure positive integration and delivery. Managing staff and subcontractors, mentoring junior RAM engineers, and acting as a technical focal point will be key aspects of your role.
You will oversee full project management and delivery while developing and maintaining strategic client relationships. Additionally, you will support RAM and safety activities across sectors, contribute to proposal writing and tender submissions, and promote innovation in techniques and tools within the System Engineering, Integration and Assurance (SEIA) Group.
Representing WSP, you will actively engage with industry partners and professional institutions, potentially participating in councils, committees, and working groups to drive technical excellence in RAMS. You may also write and present papers at conferences and events, helping to secure new business opportunities and enhance the company’s reputation in the rail sector.

Experience
- Degree in a technical engineering discipline or extensive relevant experience
- RAM engineering experience (rail experience desirable but not essential)
- Proven ability to provide technical leadership to RAM and Safety engineering teams
- Experience supporting RAM and Safety engineering activities and regulatory approvals in the UK; international experience is desirable
- Extensive knowledge and application of BS EN 50126 RAM activities throughout rail project lifecycles
- Strong interpersonal skills with experience working in multi-disciplined teams
- Knowledge of mainline or metro railway disciplines such as Signalling, Control Systems, Traction Power, Depots, etc.

About you
- Corporate membership with a relevant professional institution (e.g. SaRS, IET, IMechE)
- Professional registration as a Chartered Engineer or significant progression towards this
- Ability to mentor and manage junior staff and subcontractors
- Strong project management and client relationship skills
- Commitment to innovation and continuous improvement in RAMS engineering

Desirable
- Experience working on international projects
- Industry recognition or fellowship with a professional institution (e.g. SaRS, IET, IMechE)
- Experience in other sectors such as aviation, nuclear, oil & gas, or defence
- Consultancy environment experience
